Practical Strategies for Building a Library 2.0 Game Plan

Live Webcast
July 17, 2007
11 a.m Pacific | 1:00 p.m. Central | 2:00 p.m. Eastern

1.5 hours

Web 2.0 has quickly gave rise to Library 2.0: a comprehensive focus on new, interactive uses of information resources, the Web and physical space. But where to begin? Past ACRL Webcaster Terry Huwe provides some effective starting point strategies. He describes long term strategic plans for “enlivening” the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment (IRLE) Library, even as Library 2.0 began to gain momentum. During 2005-2006, IRLE deepened its Blogging activity, launched wikis, created a new Virtual Private Network, and more. At the same time IRLE funded the creation of a new, state-of-the-art Library Commons as well as major digitization initiatives. Throughout these processes, the Library organized to “take” services to the populations it wanted to reach. Now the IRLE Library manages “digital conversations,” overall Web content management and preservation, Blogs, Wikis and more. Huwe will outline the practical steps that led to this robust set of Library 2.0 strategies, focusing on both technological and interpersonal skills.
